kritical
Looks like the server went down just before christmas.. I only found out about this last night.. came into work today and rebooted the server, problem fixed? Odds are it's something hardware related, might need to invest in some better hardware Lets all cross our fingers and hope it lasts until the 4th when I'm back in Auckland Cheers and have a happy new years punters! Known One
Maybe taking a hacksaw to the server wasn't such a good idea?
Pakage
i think it was the drill on the back deck of 3 commercial road that did it

kritical
Dr_Awesome: That still leaves the hard disk, network card and cd-rom, We had another server outage while I was away down south for Phat 07.... Looks like this has something to do with the network card, it's up again now (well if you're reading this post it's definitely up and running) I still need to find out wtf is wrong with it though.. don't want this to happen again

I have magazines of raw assembler to code games on Commodore 64's. And if by spectrum you mean the ZX Spectrum, we have a broken one under the house. This makes me a real man. Real men/Real Programmers (Real Men Don't Eat Quiche etc.) however don't comment there code whilst programming and don't use subroutines or functions. Dr Awesome
Aphra make sure you clear you're history + cookies and sweep for spyware first though. then if all that fails, check if the DNS is resolving properly
Guest
Aphra make sure you clear you're history + cookies and sweep for spyware first though. then if all that fails, check if the DNS is resolving properly yeah i dont really know how to do most of those things but its working now (i didnt need to do anything)
kritical
Some people may have had problems if their web browser was out of date.. what this means is if you brought your computer 3 or 4 years ago.. and haven't had it upgraded since.. then you could be running really out of date stuff. In technical terms some of the older browsers don't handle virtual hosting very well which requires the requested url to be sent through as a header. And yeah there are possibly hundreds of other reasons why it might not work on a specific PC... I tested the site from multiple locations at the time and I like to think that I know a bit when it comes to networking so things should be sweet for most people You go out with a geek, you really should of had him look at it! Grind
must say its good to have the site back- when it was down over the new years period it was some of the darkest days of my life cheers for bringing me back some hope, mr kritical

Known One
She did ask and I did look at it... Aphra couldn't resolve DNS and Kritical didn't setup a default virtual hosting endpoint on his server so bypassing DNS wouldn't work. I didn't modify her hosts file cause that ain't fixing it, it's just getting around it. Clear Cache + Cookies is something you tell people to do when you don't know what the problem actually is. Changing DNS servers? What? Why would she use anything but what Ihug defaults her? Old browsers and virtual hosting? Well, thats a good suggestion... perhaps you should setup a default endpoint so that it doesn't matter?
Pakage
Changing DNS servers? What? Why would she use anything but what Ihug defaults her? When the server first changed location for me it continued to resolve to the old server, but for some reason by using only the secondary dns server it resolved to the new one? kritical
cause that ain't fixing it, it's just getting around it. If it works, it works =) perhaps you should setup a default endpoint so that it doesn't matter? That ain't going to happen as this server hosts more than one domain, I might make a default web site which says something around the lines of "your shit is fucked" lol but yeah like Aphra said before it's sweet now (If we want someone to blame it has to be Orcon who require a fully qualified domain name for DNS servers and tried to argue to me that it's impossible to do it without one... yeah right.. anyways thats why DNS was fucked for some people for awhile.. depended on the people who admin your DNS servers and how they had them setup.. but yeah anyway.. it's working now)
