The first group of acts set to appear at the Rhythm & Vines music festival in Gisborne on New Year's Eve has been announced.

Fans of the 24-hour music event will notice the festival differs slightly to previous years, with the organisers opening up the line up to genres other than the usual dance, dub and house music on offer.

Among the acts announced today are indie dance floor acts The Tutts and Motocade,

Drum n' bass legends Concord Dawn, funk punkers Charlie Ash, instrumental An Emerald City and Australasian based dub/roots act Dubdoubt.

Old favourites and dance music heavyweights Dick Johnson, Greg Churchill (as part of Aural Trash) and Cyril Orson will be back to perform.

"This year Rhythm & Vines will host a wide spectrum of music in a true festival atmosphere including indie, punk, rock, electro in addition to our usual roots based lineup," said Music Director, Hamish Pinkham.

The popularity of the outdoor festival, held at Waiohika Estate in Gisborne, is indicated by the fact earlybird tickets have already sold out. Regular tickets go on sale this Friday at 10am and will cost $130.

Dont you mean "Might be a cheaper/easier alternative for those who cant afford the $700-odd bucks* it would cost to go to Phat from Auckland"?

*That's the rough figure I came up with last year when deciding whether or not to go. Included gas, ferry cost, tickets, food and "goodies". Was even more if you wanted to fly down because you'd have to stay two extra days which you'd have to get alternate accomodation for.

if your're considering this you gotta remember that rhythm n' vines is absolutely packed full of thousands upon thousands of the most munter of munters- the sort that wear their pink ralph loren polo shirts with the collars turned up- and they are all completely off their heads.

i went last year and the sound sucked, the people were not really my type and the whole thing was just too big.

just a small heads up if you havent been before...

I prefer to sum up the above post and the post about not skimping for new years with:

Phat or STUF!

R'n'V was ok last year...

Shapeshifter did their thing, that was decent. Pat + TwinCam did their thing, that was decent too!

huge amount of the fun is camping at BayWatch campground!

that place is like Las Vagas with TENTS~! actually. well take away a few casinos and add a lot of grass...

although if you're lookin for the top quality music, yeh it's prob not the place and there are lots of muppets but they're not that annoying on the night really, they're just super cranked up carebears!

yeah, HEAPS of girls too! definately a +ve! (a positive, not HIV positive....)
