NZ is a young and very small country and rugby is part of our history whether you like it or not (this is by chance btw, Rugby League was actually very close to becoming our national game) The NZ media likes jerking itself off in regard to rugby, but that's hardly the fault of the game or the fans themselves, other than the fact that we're so goddamn good at the game and it's popular, which = it sells papers As for people building their cultural paradigms, dialect, social conventions and all that nonsense.. well people do that with whatever they're passionate about! it's human nature.. boy racers, dnb-heads, star trek geeks etc can all be stereotyped, it doesn't mean shit.. As much as I usually dont like any ball/team sports at all, I do actually kinda like to watch a bit of league, it's definitely a more interesting game from a spectators point of view. Plus my Dad has always been a league-player/fan, and my mates wife gets us free tickets to the Warriors home games. And the biggest problem is that people WONT shut the fuck up about it if they DO win the RWC, because win or lose, every rugbyhead and media outlet will bleat on and on and on about winning or losing, and by the time that dies down they'll be bleating some more about the NEXT world cup, and this will go on and on ad infinitum for as long as I can see into the future unfortunately. I think it's a real shame that when we really do have a very limited amount of sports coverage in NZ, it's all focused solely on one sport. Guest Posted August 30, 2007 Share Posted August 30, 2007 fuck... there sure is a lot of repressed workplace(?) rage going on in this thread... and i thoguht all drum and bass heads were scrawny geeks who were good at computers when they were young and now cant socialise so they go to dark basements at night where the music is too loud so they just nod their heads at each other... anyway. can we all just get anyone from dbnz together one day this summer for a massive "sports" day in the domain. we could play frisbee, hacky, cricket, soccer, croquet(for the chicks obviously), maybe set up a petanque terrain(again, for the sheilas),maybe a casual game of "Held", and maybe even touch each other on the bum... girls if you want to touch each others bums while playing the croquet or the petanque thats fine.
