Plunder
1. Never admit to speeding. Always say that as far as you know, you were going the speed limit. 2. Always ask for the radar reading, and always ask if you can see it. A lot of the time, police will say that they got a reading when they didn't. Even if they do have a reading, they may bump it up a few kms. 3. If they did manage to get a reading and you are over the speed limit. Ask to see their current certificate of calibration for the radar. A policeman must carry this in their car at all times. If they don't have it, they may try and say that they will post a copy to you or something like that...they should have it with them. If they don't have it, then say that the radar may not be calibrated properly because you were driving under the speed limit. 4. If they do have a certificate of calibration, ask to see there licence for calibration. To calibrate a radar, a policeman must have a calibration licence. If they don't have this on them, then say that without a licence, how are you supposed to know they did a proper calibration job? This worked for a friend of mine...he was going so far over the speed limit down in wanaka that he would've lost his licence. He was doing 160km in a 100 km zone and the cop bumped him down to 115km because he didn't have a certificate of calibration in the car. He still got a small fine, but it's much better than losing his licence. On smaller offences, you will be able to get off...just remember to always say you were doing the speed limit. Teret
of course, if you don't admit speeding and they do have a radar reading, with a current license for calibration and a certification of calibration you could probably expect to have your car gone over with a fine tooth comb for being a smart ass
