perceptualChaos
Fuck I hate the IRD... If you've ever worked part-time on a decent wage, or taken unpaid leave, then chances are they owe you money (cause of the stupid PAYE system), but they don't tell you about it, and you can only claim it back if you specifically request a personal tax summary and tell them you want them to pay you. Then if you don't figure out that they owe you money after 5 years, you can't claim it back. I just found out about $350 of unclaimed tax refund from when I was an undergrad 4 and 5 years ago, and I'm sure there'd be at least another $200 from the 2 years before (which I can't claim now). Anyway - as happy as I am to find out about the unexpected money, would it be so fucking hard for them to pay you automatically, or at least send a letter telling you what the process is at the end of the financial year? I bet they make a shitload of money every year off clueless young adults who never claim their tax refunds...
Ignition
You think that's bad, I just found out I owe them almost $2k
perceptualChaos
Dang, how did that happen? Only time I've ever underpaid the IRD is from using the wrong tax code when I had a student loan.

Ignition
Basically my work was taxing my monthly bonuses on the lowest tax rate, when they should have been taxing it based on my annual salary. I got a letter about being in arrears for my student loan, so called up to sort out repayments, when they noticed that I had also fallen short for my income tax. Pretty shit house, but it's money that I shouldn't have had anyway. I just want to get it paid off and get on with it really.
perceptualChaos
Stink buzz... I would have thought your work should have know better since they pay a lot of bonuses. I stop working for the year (in NZ) in 3 weeks, but I've been paying tax in the top tax bracket as if I'll earn this salary for the whole year. So next year they'll prob owe me more than $2k; it's a pretty fucked system unless you earn a consistent salary. Grind
They're usually pretty lax about the repayments, you can pay it off in installments I've been pretty lucky with tax rebates, have pocketed refunds every year I've been working, if you're too lazy to call the IRD and sort it out yourself you can always use this website, though they take a cut: http://www.taxrefunds.co.nz/home.aspx
Known One
I recommend not going down that track... They don't work out the figures correctly in some cases (They didn't take my student loan into account) They sign themselves up as your Tax agent and forward all of your IRD correspondence to their P.O. Box I rang up IRD and removed them as my tax agent, three weeks later they signed themselves up as my tax agent again without my consent They take a pretty big cut when it's so easy to do it yourself Best bet is to signup for the online services area of IRD. They grant you online access to do everything you need to do to work out if you are entitled to a refund or if you owe them money. Yesterday I worked out my 2009 taxes in about 5 minutes. You should figure that out before contacting them for anything substantial involving them processing any payments to you incase you owe them money. Their system triggers an audit of sorts if they process any transactions on your account. If you owe them money and they havn't contacted you within a year of the end of the financial year, they usually won't pick it up.
Dr Awesome
The on-line services stuff for the IRD was well done, but having to phone up to confirm your registration was more than a little gay.
Guest
You think that's bad, I just found out I owe them almost $2k The IRD claims i owe them around 26,000 in unpaod gst/fines/interest from when I was a self employed contractor working on shows for bro'Town/disney, selling SKY door-to-door, and screenprinting tee shirts. I'd be lucky if I made that much in the 2 years i was doing all that. Bunch Of Cunts.
Ducky
So, recently a situation arose between two neighbors where one neighbor laughed in the face of the other upon initially bringing up a point regarding noise. Seeing the TV programmes that have aired, and also seeing some Neighbours at War episodes, I thought you guys might like to see how to truly pwn an annoying neighbor. Hi XXXXXXXXXX, I am writing to follow up the issue of noise being emitted by machinery owned and operated by you on your property at XX XXXXXX Street. I am sorry to have to deal with this matter in writing, if you would like to discuss anything mentioned in this letter, I am available to talk whenever suits you. I feel that I need to put this writing, since we last spoke it was apparent you didn't realise how important this matter was. Or perhaps you misunderstood the actual sound I was referring to. I don't wish to cause you or your family any grief, and I hope we can resolve issue in an amicable manner. As you were notified on Friday the 9th July, your Heat Pump is emitting a constant high-pitched whine. I am aware that at this date you did acknowledge this fact, and made efforts to reduce the level of this noise being heard from outside of the property. This was done by you placing a large sheet of plywood across the top of the Heat Pump. I appreciate your efforts, unfortunately, this has not stopped us being able to hear the noise at all. Obviously the pump has been emitting this tone since the colder weather started, and we have been exposed to this audible frequency for some months now. The decibel factor is at an easily perceived level, and under current Auckland City Noise Control legislation, this type of sound can be classified as an Environmental Noise Hazard. I have received expert advice from a Heat Pump technician, that the emitted whine is evidence of improper function of the apparatus. It was suggested that it could be a bearing or valve malfunction, and if serviced could improve the efficiency and economy of such a Heat Pump. (I have supplied contact details for a local technician who is available to inspect and/or service your type of pump). Due to the close boundary proximity of the Heat Pump, the emitted noise is audible from several areas of our household , being; Our bedroom & bathroom Office / Study Studio With this constant noise it has become increasingly difficult for me to undertake my regular work and study. It is also impossible to relax while trying to get to sleep, and upon waking, this is the first thing I perceive every morning. It is the the high-pitched and consistent nature of the noise being emitted, that has become a very frustrating and in-fact stressful part of living here at XXXXXXXXXX Street. I feel that this has caused me to become very tense and at times agitated. I do understand that the Heat Pump is a necessary part of life for you and your family. I hope though that you can consider how this has affected our lives and take all possible steps to eliminate this environmental noise hazard from your property. If you wish to deal with this matter further with me in person, you are welcome into our home. If I am not home I can be contacted via mobile XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX. Thank you, XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

Ducky
shucks, ironically, just after this letter was posted, the offending noise stopped. cue a whole week of EEG free life. Then this morning whilst brushing teeth, it was apparent that Heat pump troll had returned to sharpen his claws on the wheel of sanity reduction. I'd say if a certain neighbour doesn't sort that shit out there's gonna be a Milk-Chicken bomb stashed somewhere under a certain house.
Dr Awesome
Borrowed my brothers E30 today, and at about 10:30 this morning parked down in this big shared courtyard / car park near the corner of Grafton and Khyber roads. Saw a white Fuji Xerox truck unloading some stuff as I drove in, went well past the truck a good way, backed into a park and went into the building I needed to go into. Came out and found the truck gone, the front left side of the bonnet of the car all scratched and gouged up and the front left plastic bumper panel that goes from the front bumper to the wheel arch smashed off, with white paint and big rust flakes everywhere. Phoned Fuji Xerox who said it wasn't one of their vehicles (GPS's in all of them) but they had a recorded Owen's truck in the area at that time doing a delivery. Waiting for Owens to get back to me re: wtf happened - but they confirmed that they have trucks painted in Fuji Xerox colours. I'm pissed off, that car only has 3rd party insurance, and they must have known they hit something but they just fucked off.
