Pakage
Tofu Vege Stir Fry: boil cubed tofu till floating. while boiling tofu chop into thin slices: 2 large portobello mushrooms, 1/4 onion, 1/2 carrot, 1/4 capsicum. quarter a couple bits of brocolli. get 1 cup of hot water, mix in 2 tsp of vegetable stock and put in wok. add to the wok 1 tsp of crushed garlic, 1 tsp of crushed ginger, 1/4 tsp of crushed chilli and a dash of soy sauce. mix and when hot add the vegetables. cook for about 5 mins then add the tofu. cook for a futher 3 mins then add in half a cake of egg noodles. cook for another few mins till the egg noodles are soft and the sauce has reduced. all done in about 15mins. love my vegetarian stir fry. tofu can be replaced with chick peas or meat of course. C Steppa
Best Thai? On the upper-end. Going out for dinner tonight, haven't decided where yet. Sawadee on ponsonby road is meant to be pretty good
Hakomi
Best Thai? On the upper-end. Going out for dinner tonight, haven't decided where yet. Sawadee on ponsonby road is meant to be pretty good Sawadee is quality, and double bonus for the fact its actually owned by Thai people So many Thai resturants are owned by Koreans and they never seem to be quite as good. Grind
Sawadee gets the thumbs up from me, also Mekong Neua (?) in Kingsland has great food, and authentic lady-boy waitresses. Also the Thai place on Dominion Rd just along from Eden Kebabs (which incidentally is the best kebabs in Auckland), is excellent for cheap/tasty takeways, or at least used to be when I was last there a year or so ago. Teret
Sawadee Also the Thai place on Dominion Rd just along from Eden Kebabs (which incidentally is the best kebabs in Auckland), o. You must be on the payroll because you've been saying this for 5 years. All about zap2 on Dominion Road for me, massive, authentic meals and corkage is a dollar per person for the BYO. Been there with Mrs split a main and had a bottle of wine for $17!! Also, Always ask for your curries "Thai hot" otherwise you'll get a pissy "white boy hot meal" Unrelated food news: Been getting into some epic sandwiches lately, there is very little I won't put in them. Grind
I wish I was on the payroll! Zap2 is all good, there's a couple of Zaps around now but I think the Dominion Rd one is meant to be the best..

No nasties (preservatives msg etc) like other beef jerky products. http://www.canterburybiltong.co.nz/home/products Hitting some of this at the moment. Original flavour (Coriander & Pepper) is fuckin good! So hard to stop eating though. Must try to avoid desk drawer #1.

Dr Awesome
Speaking of African, I came across this website a while back. Apart from the fact that it looks like 1996 faxed, and it has gay popups from time to time, looks as though it's got some dope-ass recipes, if slightly odd. I'm going to try make one of the dishes tomorrow night.

C Steppa
anyone got any decent soup recipes? Its definitely 'soup for lunch' time of the year. Im keen to make up some bulk batches and store them in the fridge/freezer. prefer hearty soups with lots of veges. chur. C Steppa's Chant Down Babylon Minestrone 1 small onion, chopped 1 small carrot, chopped 2 rashers of bacon Few leaves of spinach 1 small potato, chopped 4 cloves of garlic 1 can of beans (chickpeas, white beans, red kidney or whatever you prefer) 1 can chopped tomatoes 1 can full of water 1tsp dried oregano Splash of Red Wine Salt and Pepper 1/4 cup of macaroni I put some fresh basil in as well for flavour. Method: Add all except spinach and macaroni to the pot, simmer for 20minutes. Then add the macaroni and spinach and simmer for a further 15 mins. Serve with shitloads of parmesan cheese. Might wanna double it if you wanna freeze some. If you want it a bit thicker add a bit more tomatoes. Holla.
Pakage
nice one bro, sounds good. ill have to give it a whirl. would you recommend adding some lentils and/or soup mix type stuff in aswell or just as is?
C Steppa
I reckon lentils would be good aye. Whatever suits you. Just add a bit more tomato juices or something the more solids you put in.

Pakage
will be making this tomorrow to be my lunch for the week. will report back right, its on the stove as i type, lookin/smelling good so far. I doubled the recipe and also added in some quartered button mushrooms and soup mix.
Pakage
meeeeeeeeeeean. that was dope. lookin forward to eating it after its sat over night and really infused the flavor. Here's my revised recipe for a big batch, i skipped the wine as i was on a bit of a budget and had none lying around the house: 1 large onion, chopped 1 1/2 large carrots, chopped 4 rashers of bacon, chopped 1 bag of baby spinach 2 potatoes, chopped 8 cloves of garlic, chopped 2 cans of chick peas 2 cans chopped tomatoes 2 cups of quartered button mushrooms 2 cans full of water 2tsp dried oregano lots of Salt and Pepper 1 cup of macaroni 1 cup of soup mix Parmesan cheese on top when served. Used the same method, cooked everything for a while then added the soup mix, macaroni and spinach later. Ended up slow cooking it for a fair bit longer than you posted, but that was largely due to the pot i was using, its really prone to burn on the bottom. Ended up with about 6-8 lunch sized serves. its thick as, barely soup to be honest, but that's all good by me. Needs to be thick imo so its actually filling. The results: chur bro

Pakage
After talking up my skills from working in a gourmet pizza restaurant, my flat mates got me to put my money where my mouth is tonight. The line up: Tijuana Chicken - Caramelized Onions, Grilled Capsicum, Lemon & Herb Marinated Chicken & Mozzarella finished with Crushed Peanuts, Chopped Coriander, a Sour Cream Squiggle and drizzled with Lime Juice. South Seas Salmon - Caramelized Onions, Blanched Spinach, Smoked Salmon, Capers, Cream Cheese & Mozzarella. Classic Peperoni - Caramelized Onions, Peperoni, Diced Tomato & Mozzarella. Finished with a Sprinkling of Shaved Parmesan. The Results: Epic win! Edited July 11, 2010 by Guest
