Taiko
What do i get for winning? Should it even be this slow when it's capped? Interesting that it says ihug when we are on Vodaphone. yeah, theres 1000Kb in a Mb so if your cap is 64Kbps, then it should actually slow down to 0.06Kbps, so 0.08Kbps is actually above your capped speed. oh and ihug got bought out by vodafone a few years back eh Interesting. Flatmate deals with the internets so will ask her what exactly our stats are, i.e. if our cap is 64kbps.
Pakage
pretty much all ISP's capped speed is 64kbps AFAIK. but yeah, usually you get a bit more than 64kbps. i usually get around 100Kbps when im capped.

Carlos the Jackal
At home. Using a Thomson TG585v7. Got over 20Mb/s the other day but I didn't copy the link & now I'm on 64k as my muppet flat mate used up half our monthly band width over anniversary weekend on his iTouch Hakomi, I'd say your modem/router is on its way out. Aphid
as my muppet flat mate used up half our monthly band width over anniversary weekend on his iTouch Umm, what plan are you on - or more importantly how did your flat mate get hi-def pron streaming on the itouch? Hakomi
Hakomi, I'd say your modem/router is on its way out. Yeah that was my first thought also, so I got a new modem and when the speed was still rubbish I created this thread.
Carlos the Jackal
Umm, what plan are you on - or more importantly how did your flat mate get hi-def pron streaming on the itouch? 15GB with slingshot. We're changing plans next month so well have 25GB for him to try & waste. I've blocked youtube so well see if that slows him down. He blew $60 on iTunes so that would account for a bit. Would be a bit mean if I blocked that as well. Hopefully the novelty of the new toy has worn off by the time we're uncapped. Yeah that was my first thought also, so I got a new modem and when the speed was still rubbish I created this thread. Try unplugging all the phones in your house & see if that makes any difference. Worse comes to worse you'll have to ph telecom & see if there's a fault on your line Edited February 3, 2011 by Guest
Pakage
dewd. slingshot has free traffic between 1am and 7am that doesnt count towards your monthly data. im with them. all i do is use utorrent for downloading stuff and it has a scheduler built in, so i can schedule it to only download between 1 and 7am. Free off-peak data used this month 32.82GB woot. i still use most of my 15gigs up, but yeah, use it for day time browsing and then only torrent on the free traffic and i hardly ever run out of datas. I had an alarm installed that when triggered I get a call from my home phone telling me its going off. He had to install something to prevent this function from impeeding my broadband but perhaps this "thing" (I cant remember what he called it) is playing up. I think our plan is from 4-8am. I managed to get about 13GB down during free off-peak but now we're on 64k so I can't get shite between those times
Hakomi
Line filter? Presume you've got a filter on your modem as well as the alarm system? There is definatly an external one on the modem but not sure what he added for the alarm. I think I will give him a call.
perceptualChaos
20 Mbit/s fiber connection with unlimited monthly usage = win... Translates into ~2.5MB/s actual download speed when you've got a few good torrents running.

Not 100% sure tbh cause it was already setup when we moved in, but I THINK it's around $120/month in NZD all up with the phone. Which is about the same as I was paying for the Telecom Pro plan back in Auckland.
Ignition
Damn that's good. 20Mbps fibre through my work would be about $2,000pm. Berry Rucky Tim San

beatrixquiddo
Yo..need your helps gang...Our household is roughly using 40GB per month and would like the cheapest deal for that, phone is not necessary but being capped is a MUST. We are currently being raped by telecom. Who do you guys recommend?
perceptualChaos
Telecom has best speeds IMO... but yeah their over usage charges are just crazy ridiculous. Hard to manage in a flat environment. They have a 'double data' promotion atm.... I wonder if you could cancel your current contract and sign up again under a different name haha? Then you'd get 80gb for the same price as 40gb (for the first 6 months anyway).
beatrixquiddo
ha true..thats worth checking out, although Im not into the idea of getting hooked into telecom for another 12months...and actually Im not overly concerned about speeds..more about bang for buck I guess, and getting a consistent bill each month..
