Chill out bars

Rakinos on a weeknight has always done me well. (As long as you can secure a couch.) No pretension, warm lighting, and a really relaxed environment. Plus, the music is appropriately non-housey.

Or you could always try Pasha...

Good luck!

Rakinos is a good place midweek for a quiet drink, nice food there too, also Biotta(?) at Sky City. They serve Spanish tapas and it's pretty swt! Or Corner Bar if she's an alcoholic and you want to enjoy a nice rare whisky

This. Serious heat on the beer, wine and spirit lists and you can get Al Volos brought over the road for you. Ugh actual saliva production at the thought of Corner Bar:icon_drool:

corner store is the one at the top of mt eden road...

might i suggest gypsy tea room in west lynn? sometimes hard to find a seat but an excellent wine list...

also cartel on symonds street beneath squid row - next level cocktails and pretty impressive underground place - she will probably think you're cool. kinda expenno though.

the ginger minx down in mt eden valley has lovely decor and wicked drinks with not particularly intrusive music.

other awesome bars i can think that would be perfect for a date would be 24/7 and charlies on krd, the sports bar on symonds street and the otahuhu tavern

Auckland is really spoilt for choice with these kinds of places. I particularly miss Rakinos but all the above suggestions are good.

If your looking for somewhere really intimate there is a good place in Herne Bay. Cant remember the name but its a small place on the corner of Jervois and a road coming off it, near the bottom of Jervois before it curves around. Small place, capacity 20 odd, great winelist, mood lighting, nice ambience and music. Chances of intimacy later the evening - highly increased by this bar.

The Elbow Room. Agreed and confirmed. A very cool local.

Biotta(?) at Sky City.

Think this might be the winner. it is pretty nice up there. only draw back is its in a casino lol.

Is that the place we got our pre-drinks on at? If so it's quite nice...

Nah, i think thats 'bar 3' isnt it?

I ended up going to corner bar and sampling some of their top shelf whiskey.

good choice imo
