Guest
dont know if anyone has put this up,(cant be fucked trawling 5 pages), BRAZIL. It's a retro-futuristic movie about a dystopian/automated society where a handyman is the super hero. Pretty buzzy, and way ahead of their time. FUNFACT: This is the movie that gave the old "BRAZIL" cafe (now HAndmade Burgers) it's name. Thats why those guys were off the grid, no eftpos etc... they truly are ext-system believers

hazel
I'm not sure if these have been mentioned... I'd have to say a revisit of scanner darkly was mint this week. I don't think I really had the patience for it the first time I gave it a go, but its got to be one of my favorites. It is a good follow up to Waking Life which is a real brain squeeze Hooper introduced me to Ken Park and that was one of the most twisted films I've seen to date, good watch, but don't watch it with your Mum. United States of Leeland was pretty good. I was really disappointed with Choke. I read the book and a few of Chuck Palahniuk's books after watching Fight Club and following it up. Could have been so much better, the movie sucked and cheapened the awesome story. OOoooOO and I liked Zombie Strippers too. Any horror, messier the better

hazel
Aventures of Power was alright, I can't really make my mind up about it! It has napoleon dynamite vibes. Its about an air drummer, so its got a few good laughs I feed off Rialto Channel, ditched sky movies 1 and 2 for it... just got sick of how Irish those two channels were repeating the same stories over and over for months. And only a few of which I would actually want to see. The only prob with Rialto is the descriptions on the guide are really not something you can judge the movie on. If it says something like "man meets up with old friends and learns something about his past." it could end up being a hardcore porno (alt of course being an independent films channel.) a thriller or a romance (blerch) or a horror... sometimes the shittiest scribble on the description turns into the best movie! So i tend to just record everything, i love My Sky. A good drama I saw recently as well was Poppy Shakespeare a look into modern day treatment for the mentally ill and how you can make being insane your career. The Cove was really good, it makes an activist out of anyone. A bit depressing on a come down, but I think everyone should give it a go.
hazel
^ human centipede is on at the auck film fest don't know if I'm going to go, but in a way a movie that sick just has to be watched Quirky stories looks good too, one short flick in particular called Tentacles of Dimensions NZ/USA 2009. Director: Nandita Kumar. 14 mins The story of a brain that departs from its programming to purely indulge the senses. A trippy, animated journey. thr339z
yup im a film geek.. and it always weirdly seems that when im on a gig (currently im first Assistant Directing on a feature) that my movie watching levels sky rocket...currently I watch at least two films a night heres what i have been watching La haine.. Great french hyper Scorsese-eske film based in the ghettos of paris as the city implodes and the state cracks down on the gangstas of the slums.. DOPER as fuck film.. Push.. A film set in the not to distant future with Hong Kong as a backdrop, and metaphysical powers battling the forces of evil.. Now if u can get passed the terrible acting and massive plot holes and just geek it up and check the cinematic steez its a winner but its like they say with out substance style better be pimping or else a nigguhs OUT! The Planet of the apes series.. all of them theres 4, get your torrent on.. well worth the psudo 70s exploitation vibe in a PG context... Conquest Of The Planet Of The Apes is my favorate The City Of Lost Children, Pure French Avant Garde metaphysical cineama. Great film , if you dont do art house , dont worry, its very french and very beautiful, but will go way over your head if you dont have patience yup.....
