Egypt presidential candidate seeks Constitution based on Sharia Law

Egypt’s Constitution should be based on the Koran and Sharia law, presidential candidate from the Muslim Brotherhood Islamist movement Mohamed Morsi said.

“The Koran is our constitution, the Prophet is our leader, jihad is our path and death in the name of Allah is our goal,” Morsi said in his election speech before Cairo University students on Saturday night.

Today Egypt is close as never before to the triumph of Islam at all the state levels, he said.

“Today we can establish Sharia law because our nation will acquire well-being only with Islam and Sharia. The Muslim Brothers and the Freedom and Justice Party will be the conductors of these goals,” he said.

The Muslim Brotherhood Islamist group has been banned in Egypt for decades before being legalized following the ouster of President Hosni Mubarak in last year’s popular uprising, and has since emerged as a powerful political force.

The first round of Egypt’s presidential election is scheduled for May 23-24. The presidential campaign starts on April 30 and finishes at midnight on May 21.

The president will be elected for a four-year term.

Your democracy is off to a real good start there Egypt..

In what way is their democracy not off to a good start? They had a number of candidates, and that's what more than half of the population voted for (i.e. a representative democracy). They just made the "wrong" choice from a western perspective lol.

the patent wars are ridiculous, its strangling creativity and advancements. Some of the judges are pushing for legislation to remove patents from the electronics & software industries.

One argument is that the tech changes so fast, that by the time someone has reverse engineered your idea, manufactured it and put it on the market place, you probably already have sold a heap of them and are about to release the next generation of device anyway.

I guess it sucks for a small fish who might have a great idea stolen by one of the giants before they have a chance to produce it properly themselves, but its not such a bad idea IMO.

The problem is not so much that the tech changing so quickly... a lot of technology is reused in new models. If everyone used patents for what they were meant to be used for - i.e. to protect your legitimate 'invention' from commercialization by other companies so that you get an exclusive chance to sell it on the market as a reward for your creativity - then there would be no problem.

The problem is that these days people try to patent absolutely everything and anything, down to the smallest and most insignificant design decisions. They then try to make the patent claims as wide reaching as they can get away with, and pile up masses of such patents to use as ammunition and defense against rival companies who are doing exactly the same thing.

There are just so many bullshit patents these days. Here in Japan many researchers at big companies have quotas where they have to pump out a patent application every 6 months or so. At my last company we found one of our customers got a patent awarded for fairly obvious technology stolen from us, that we had been selling for years! Also, when we applied for my patent we also made the claims way wider than we should have been able to get away with. Waaaay too much system abuse going on lol.

IMO the patent offices around the world just need to significantly raise the bar and get better educated specialist patent clerks who can understand the true significance and novelty of the patent applications so they can clamp down on everyone abusing the system.

I reckon the courts should also not let people sue on patents they are not actually utilizing in the products they are selling. "Patent trolls" that patent stuff without ever having the intention of selling it so they can make money from suing other companies need to go fuck the right off. This also goes for legitimate companies suing based on patents of technology they are not actually using in their products.

Semen is 'good for women's health and helps fight depression'

Range of chemicals in semen 'promote mental well-being and feelings of affection', say researchers

Oral sex is good for women's health and makes you feel happier, according to a study which studied the effects of semen's 'mood-altering chemicals'.

The State University of New York study - which scientists carried out via survey rather than through practical experiment - compared the sex lives of 293 females to their mental health.

It follows research which shows that seminal fluid contains chemicals that elevates mood, increases affection, induces sleep and also contains at least three anti-depressants.

The researchers also claim that women who have regular unprotected sex are less depressed and perform better on cognitive tests.

Semen contains another of chemicals along with spermatozoa, including cortisol, which is known to increase affection, estrone, which elevates mood and oxytocin, which also elevates mood.

It also contains thyrotropin-releasing hormone (another antidepressant), melatonin (a sleep-inducing agent), and even serotonin (perhaps the best-known antidepressant neurotransmitter).

Given these ingredients - and this is just a small sample of the mind-altering 'drugs' found in human semen - Researchers Gallup and Burch, along with the psychologist Steven Platek, hypothesised that women having unprotected sex should be less depressed than suitable control participants.

To investigate whether semen has antidepressant effects, the authors rounded up 293 college females from the university's Albany campus, who agreed to fill out an anonymous questionnaire about various aspects of their sex lives.

Recent sexual activity without condoms was used as an indirect measure of seminal plasma circulating in the woman’s body.

Each participant also completed the Beck Depression Inventory, a commonly used clinical measure of depressive symptoms.

The most significant findings from this study, published in the Archives of Sexual Behavior, were that, even after adjusting for frequency of sexual intercourse, women who engaged in sex and 'never' used condoms showed significantly fewer depressive symptoms than did those who 'usually' or 'always' used condoms.

Importantly, these chronically condom-less, sexually active women also evidenced fewer depressive symptoms than did those who abstained from sex altogether.

By contrast, sexually active heterosexual women, including self-described 'promiscuous' women, who used condoms were just as depressed as those practicing total abstinence.

The research suggests it is not just that women who are having sex are simply happier, but that happiness levels might be related to the quantity of semen within their body.

Hugging fad earns ban at school

North Shore students have been banned from hugging during school hours because too many of them - mainly girls - were consistently arriving late to their classes.

Takapuna Normal Intermediate School deputy principal Sue Cattell said teachers last week suggested to students that they keep the hugs outside of the school day.

A trend among groups of year 8 students - 12- to 13-year-olds - had driven the call, Mrs Cattell said.

"It's just a little thing that they're doing. It got out of hand towards the end of morning tea time especially. There would be groups that got back to class 10 to 15 minutes late because they were going around making sure they'd hugged the whole group before they got back to class.

"Obviously they'll see their friends again at lunchtime so there's not a need for a great big hug. [The teachers' talk] was to remind them that this is like their place of work and they need to be back on time."

More than 600 attend the school and there were also concerns that some children's feelings could be hurt if they were left out.

Parent Lorna Subritsky, whose daughter attends the school, said she could understand it might be annoying for teachers for have stragglers to their classes but the issue could be dealt with by addressing the lateness, not the physical contact.

Parents could have spoken to their children in order to cut down the time-wasting.

"It's like using a sledgehammer to squash an ant. I thought it was pretty bizarre," she said.
