C Steppa
From TV3 website Controversial broadcaster Paul Henry is to return to Mediaworks, taking over RadioLIVE?s drive time slot in place of Maggie Barry.Henry will also work on ?several high profile? TV3 projects. It will not be the first time Henry has hosted the drive time slot ? he was host of the show when RadioLIVE first launched in 2005 and again in 2007. Paul Henry became one of New Zealand?s most searched-for-on-Google journalists when he quit TVNZ last year. The resignation followed several on-screen incidents which divided the nation. The first incident involved Henry asking the Prime Minister whether Governor General Sir Anand Satyanand was ?even a New Zealander?. Things came to a head after Henry laughed at the name of Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit. Henry later made an apology before handing in his resignation. General Manager Talk Brands, Jana Rangooni says Henry is one of the most talented radio broadcasters in the country. ?We are incredibly happy to have him back in the industry at RadioLIVE and we are excited about the contribution he will make to the team,? she says. Henry says he can?t wait to get back on air. ?I?m really looking forward to working with the talented team at RadioLIVE, as well as the exciting projects that lie ahead with television.? CEO, Jason Paris says he is thrilled with the addition of Paul Henry to the Mediaworks family. ?This was a rare opportunity for the company. These situations don't come along all that often and we are privileged to be able to take advantage of this.? Henry will start in his new job in July. Pakage
Pope charged with crimes against humanity in World Court Criminal charges were filed against Pope Benedict XVI at the International World Court last week by two lawyers from the Pope's home state of Bavaria. The charges, which allege crimes against humanity, were submitted by Christian Sailer and Gert-Joachim Hetzel of Marktheidenfeld to Dr Luis Moreno Ocampo, the prosecutor of the International Criminal Court at the Hague. The 16,500-word indictment alleges "three worldwide crimes which until now have not been denounced . . . (as) the traditional reverence toward 'ecclesiastical authority' has clouded the sense of right and wrong". They claim the Pope "is responsible for the preservation and leadership of a worldwide totalitarian regime of coercion which subjugates its members with terrifying and health-endangering threats". full article
penco
Tiki Taane arrested in Tauranga Chart-topping New Zealand singer Tiki Taane is due to appear in the Tauranga District Court on Friday after being arrested in the city early yesterday. He was performing a gig at Illuminati on Harrington Street when police arrested him. Taane is charged with disorderly behaviour likely to cause violence to start or continue. A number of people at the gig said Taane began singing "f*** the police" when they carried out a standard inspection of the club. When they approached him afterwards "things got out of hand", a person who did not wish to be identified said. Tiki Taane's website carried this message: "Freedom of speech is a human right. All our love and thorts are with everyone who attended the Tauranga gig last nite and in particular those who were present early hours this morning ... we sincerely hope you are all ok please contact us via holla@tikidub.com if you need anything in relation to what occurred... arohanui and bless [sic]." His manager and sister, Nina Taane, said the arrest took place some time near closing time at 3am. "He was performing at the gig when he was arrested," she said. "We need to work things through with our lawyer around how this plays out and a lot of that is around bringing the truth to the surface." It is understood a staff member from Illuminati was also arrested. She said her brother was coping well after the arrest, but the issue required "sensitivity". Nina would not elaborate on why her brother was arrested, but said others were arrested with him. "We just hope everyone who was there is OK. It will all come out eventually." She said her brother would release a full statement later today. http://www.stuff.co.nz/entertainment/music/4872499/Tiki-Taane-arrested-in-Tauranga herp derp

C Steppa
US President Barack Obama is set to announce that Osama Bin Laden is dead, according to US media reports. The White House says President Barack Obama is making a late-night statement but did not announce the topic that he would discuss. Officials say the statement could come as early as 10:50pm EDT (14.50pm, NZ time). It is highly unusual that the president would make a late-night statement with not even a hint about what he would discuss. Watch a live stream of the President's address below:

Nato
hmmmmmmmmmmmmm I don't think that image was ever released as official. It's not a case of somebody seeing the photo then backtracing it to the source, it's a case of somebody photoshopping an image then it being picked up online as "leaked Osama death photo" and then discovered to be a chop. Pakage
Bin Laden a freedom fighter - Harawira Hone Harawira has described Osama bin Laden as "a man who fought for the rights, the land and the freedom of his people". In tributes on Maori-language television, the leader of the new Mana Party said the al-Qaeda founder should be "honoured" rather than "damned" in death according to Maori culture. Mr Harawira twice paid tribute to bin Laden in te reo, saying it was Maori custom to acknowledge the dead. United States President Barack Obama announced on Monday US troops had killed the al-Qaeda leader and the news was quickly welcomed by Prime Minister John Key and Labour leader Phil Goff. However, many Maori politicians had a different perspective. Mr Harawira said on Maori Television's Native Affairs that bin Laden had "pursued independence for his people, his family and his tribe". full article

Do you honestly think Al Qaeda are out there believing that what they are doing is wrong or bad? it was the duty of all Muslims to kill unbelievers, especially Americans, and that when he had seen the bodies of the infidels flying "like dust motes" on September 11th 2001, his heart had filled with joy. Hatred of America had tormented him for as long as he could remember. To drive out the infidels, to establish Palestine and destroy Israel, to eject the "heretics" who ruled in Saudi Arabia, to purify Islam itself with Wahhabist fundamentalism, were his ambitions. If they boiled down to a doctrine, it was a violent form of jihad, the holy duty of all Muslims, to make God's word victorious; or just what he called "reciprocity", an eye for an eye. source As mike was alluding to, he was not a freedom fighter, he was a religious fundamentalist. Its not a matter of perspective at all, its a matter of motive. Im not saying that he didnt think what he was doing was right, but thats not the definition of a freedom fighter. He was in fact basically doing the opposite. Fighting for the oppression of people with religion. Freedom Fighter: a person who takes part in an armed rebellion against the constituted authority (especially in the hope of improving conditions) Not someone waging a religious Jihad. Freedom Fighter: a person who takes part in an armed rebellion against the constituted authority (especially in the hope of improving conditions) Not someone waging a religious Jihad. Sure their motives are wrong but my point was that to the people who fought with him and believed in what they were doing they were protecting what they deemed to be the holiest land of their religion. To them it was about freedom in their own way. That's why it is about perspective, and why I don't think Hone's comments were really intended to be taken as they've been taken. He was explaining Maori spiritual beliefs about the death of a person amongst the steamy media circle-jerk of Bin Laden death celebration. Not a bad thing imo. Pakage
Key readies voters for changes to KiwiSaver Prime Minister John Key is planning a softening-up exercise tomorrow with a major pre-Budget speech addressing potentially unpopular changes to the highly popular KiwiSaver scheme. Mr Key said yesterday that he did not believe the Budget changes would break election promises. But he hinted that Government contributions could be limited until its books return to surplus. The scheme has 1.67 million members and in the current financial year the Government will pay about $922.5 million total contribution, including the $1000 it pays to kick-start each new account. Potential areas for change are cutting or reducing the Government's own contribution to KiwiSaver accounts of up to $20 a week and up to $1040 a year. It could drop the $1000 kick-start contribution to new accounts and/or target Government contributions to low-paid savers. full article
Eaze
Virginia girl found eating herself in cage in mobile home; parents Brian and Shannon Gore charged. A young girl was found caged and attempting to eat herself in a mobile home in Virginia, and cops say her parents are responsible. The malnourished girl, believed to be either 5 or 6, was discovered in a crib that was converted into a makeshift cage after police arrived at the home in Gloucester County to investigate a burglary last week. The girl's parents, Brian and Shannon Gore, were arrested and charged with felony child abuse. The mother was also charged with attempted capital murder. However, the gruesome twosome now faces first-degree murder charges after the remains of what authorities believe to be another child were found buried outside their mobile home. "I've done this for 20 years, and I've never seen anything like this in my life," Gloucester Sheriff's Maj. Darrell Warren said. http://www.nydailynews.com/news/national/2011/05/04/2011-05-04_virginia_girl_found_eating_herself_in_cage_in_mobile_home_parents_brian_and_shan.html#ixzz1Lu6BMIMi WTF!
