We knew it would be blue but it was a damn sad turnout for the left. Even if you add Labour and Green together you get like 38% That is some weak-ass shit.

 

Worst parts though are Jacinda losing to Nikki Kaye in central and Paula Bennet retaining Waitakere. What the fuck Auckland!

 

Yeah can't believe Jacinda didn't win central! Just goes to show how different local government matters are from election issues.

Really poor voter turnout at this election as well, saw someone claiming that the glut of opinion polls showing the nats with an overwhelming majority went some way towards causing this, and I'm inclined to agree - apathy combined with the feeling that your party faces overwhelming odds can be a strong dis-incentive.

Paula Bennet as well.. my god.

As to Key's claims that he now has a mandate to sell assets, I completely disagree. He was voted back in because the majority of the population want stability, not on the strength of his asset sale policies

Worst voter turn out in 120 years apparently:

 

A million eligible New Zealanders did not bother to vote in Saturday's election, producing the lowest turnout in percentage terms in 120 years.

 

Turnout dropped by just over 90,000, from 79.5 per cent of those on the rolls in 2008 to 73.8 per cent.
