What do you think about all this drama going on in the middle east?

Who do you think is right/wrong and why?

i think that the lebanese should not have been firing rockets at israel.. but just because the lebanese are fighting with guerilla tactics, doesnt justify israel blowing up innocent civilians..

this whole conflict is fucked!

I choose c - noone is right in war...

So many innocent people die in any conflict of this scale and the effects are evident many generations after the bombs have stopped and the rebuilding is complete.

There is no resolution in surrender.

Man I love Aotearoa...

I agree with you

it breaks my heart seeing kids crying, familys with out homes and all because people are too stubborn to think about what the long term damage could be,

All's fair in love and war. If I could choose which side NZ was backing, I'd choose Israel, because they won't lose this war and it's no fun being on the losing team. Sure, everyone around them may hate them, but Jews have survived thousands of years of hatred and racial discrimination. But I don't feel sorry for them and I don't think what they're doing is 'right' in the absolute sense of the word. I don't hate the Jews (so passé, everyone's done it) but nor do sympathise with the Lebanese. I don't think those in power want this war to end and the UN's efforts are a joke. The situation sucks but I think this is just the beginning. Let's hope I'm wrong.

the war is not (officially) Lebanon versus Israel,

its Israel versus Hizbollah, which is a relatively small group of Lebanese guerilla fighters who are opposed to US/Israeli intervention in the Middle East (the media likes to call them "terrorists").

That is why its fucked that Israel (with a huge hi-tech army and obvious US backing) has been throwing bombs at places where known non-Hizbollah associated Lebanese civilians reside.

In my opinion Israel AND Hizbollah are in the wrong. The US isn't looking to good either, pushing back a peace agreement and everything...

i vote for a thread name change

Israel will continue attacking until someone bothers to tell them to stop (UN, US backers etc etc) If they enter the Capital Syria will join up with Lebanon anyway. That is one thing Israel dont want.

... Can't we all just get along?

The bias in most peoples views toward the subject (espesh the media) piss's me off... branding Hizbollah as a terrorist organisation is just another reason why watching the news propoganda machine fucks me off.

If a person were to only get their information on the subject from the media or from people who had watched the media etc... I can see how people would be sympathetic toward Israel...

Internet is all good cause at least you can check out media from both sides of the conflict and read articles which don't sugar coat the actions of Israel.

Heres some exerts from the NZ herald..

"An Israeli air strike on the edge of a UN-run refugee camp near the southern city of Sidon today killed two people, bringing to at least 75 the number of civilians killed by air strikes this week, with scores wounded."

nice one.. attacking a refugee camp...

"Israeli bombardments and ground incursions have so far killed around 1,000 Lebanese, the vast majority civilians, drawing widespread criticism from the international community."

and more civilians....

"Israel says the offensive is the only way it can stop Hizbollah guerrillas from firing rockets into northern Israel which have killed nearly 50 people in the 29-day conflict."

1000 lebanese (mainly civilians) dead.. and OMG, STOP THE PRESSES.. 50 israelis......

20 x the kill count.. nice one..

"Earlier in the day top Israeli ministers approved a decision to expand the offensive in Lebanon, a move which UN agencies said would worsen a humanitarian crisis believed to have displaced 750,000 people in Lebanon already."

750,000 people forcced outta their homes coz 50 israelis got killed by rockets?! that seems fair... in a george bush kinda way.... shock and awe wat?

"Aid agencies said their efforts to get to southern Lebanon had stalled for a second successive day after Israel imposed an indefinite ban on movement south of the Litani river, saying it could attack any vehicle not in an approved convoy."

great.. and theyre stopping food and medical supplies getting to them too.. nice genocide tactic.

Reuters video on the matter

i agree wif yall.. no ones really right.. they should stop fighting and smoke a joint.. but israel is really fucking the lebanese over royal.. to me, theyre the greater of the 2 evils.

the americans should have stepped in alongtime ago and told the Israeli's no more air strikes and to take a ground offensive instead to reduce civilian casualities

and syria jordan iran should have started to move troops to syria's border with lebanon to force the issue of israeli withdrawl from southern lebanon

i crack up when i hear the statistics of hezbollahs rocket kill count

2500 rockets fired into israel and only about 30 actually killed

as opposed to israel's air strikes which have caused mass killings 700+

Very much my sentiment. Echoing George Galloway, I think too many people have the belief (whether they are aware or not) that Israeli lives are somehow more valuable than that of the Lebanese. Unfortunately this outlook permeates the Foreign Policy of the US, and most of the nation-states with the power to do anything about this situation.

I choose neither!

They are both guilty of murder.

For a race that considers itself intelligent and above all other mammals, yet still behave like idiots and take lives without a conscience! I thought thats what defferentiated us from animals, the fact that we do have a conscience and do base our lives on what is right and wrong, yet in the name of land, god, oil behave worse than animals.

grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

I heard some out of it stuff about this battle. I don't know much about the bible but aparently there are a whole lot of prophecies that have been fulfilled to this date and the final prophecy is that the muslim mosque (which sits in the middle of Jerusalem) will be demolished and replaced by a Jewish temple. - Once this happens this is supposed to be the very beginning of World war three and nukes will be used...scary!

You are probably talking about the bible code. If you can be bothered go get the book of the same name. Semi-interesting but I've also read a bunch of stuff disproving everything written in it so must be taken with a grain of salt.

People have been proclaiming the end of the world since the beginning of organised religion - especially Christianity. The world has been a tumultuous place to live since it's birth and it will continue to be, until people accept that there is no life after death, and try and make the world a better place to live now. If Israel and Lebanon was filled with predominantly secular humanists, then I can guarantee there would have never even been a problem to sort out.
