Pretty uneventful for the most part although I did buy a house yesterday which is exciting.

Epic bro, your first foothold on the property ladder! Where'd you end up buying?

Hrmm, 2012. Been a pretty sweet year!

3/4 of the way through my Masters thesis, been studying something thats allowed me to get outside and have heaps of free time, which is epic.

Gig-wise, there's been some which have lived up to the hype, some that have over-delivered, and some real let-downs.

Getting to see Photek this year was pretty special.

Also Youngsta in the Tron was awesome, roadied down, crashed in the deluxe Kings Court Motel, 6 critters in a 2 bedroom unit.

Floating Points and Alexander Nut in the warehouse rave was wicked last weekend, hoping its a sign of more alternative venues to come!

Black Keys put on a good show, stoked to pick up last minute tickets for that

Splore this year, definitely a highlight, some amazing memories and also lack of memories. Africa Hitech monsoon set / Erykah Badu / Q-Bert and Reeps One, insane!

Been a bit of a musical overhaul as well. Moving away from heavy/deep tech and more towards the goods. Tribal/Dub/Halftime/Hiphop ... You're not getting sick of Dj'ing, you're just getting sick of playing the same stuff over and over.

Avondale. It was our top pick of the Western suburbs so we are stoked to have actually managed to get a place there. And the best part....

NO MORE FUCKING OPEN HOMES :armata_pdt_12:

maaate, tell me about it. Our landlord has been selling our house, so we've had a series of open homes every weekend for the last month, as well as unscheduled fucking agents dropping in most week days 'can we have a look around' not like you can say no when their front foot is in your bladdy house.

I guess I'm on the other end of the stick :D but they suck both ways.

Sorry

/Derail - back to 2012

2012 huh.. its been a good year for me.

Highlights would include:

Getting promoted to Senior Web Developer at work. Took the lead developer role on some pretty meaty projects with more lined up for the end of this year and next.

Planted and harvested my first vege garden.

Moved my gigs out of coherent.

Celebrated my 1 year anniversary with my gorgeous girlfriend earlier this month.

DJ wise, i think I've laid down a couple of the best sets of my life this year. Really happy with how that's going.

Production wise, could definitely step that up a notch, been too busy with work!

I've managed to stay largely out of the club this year unless I'm DJing which i think my ears have thanked me for.

One of the few internationals i did come out for was Enei and man that was a weird set considering the tunes he makes.

Biggest gig regret would be missing both Lenzman and Photek due to being over worked and under paid.

anyway, enough about me, bring on 2013 :alienbang:

Pretty sweet... first half was epic work times. Had some major projects which I busted my ass on to get done before Aphra and I jetted off for 5 months.

Got that all done and we flew into Peru for a month... did the 4 day Inca trail to Machu Picchu, went deep into the Amazon Basin for weeks doing all sorts of cool Jungle stuff which was the highlight of our trip for me.

Followed that up with a month in Mexico... Scuba diving in the Caribbean being a highlight there. Think crystal clear water and coral reef. Went on an in-depth tour of Mexican pre-columbian ruins, including getting to some of the sites bordering Guatemala. Ending up in Mexico City.

Up to Canada for a month of sightseeing and wilderness, then down to the West coast of the USA... driving around just under 10,000km in 6 weeks; A quarter of the Circumference of the earth (Still need to figure out how much extra to add with the driving in Mexico and Canada). Following that we took a train cross country to Chicago then drive through Hurricane Sandy to New York for our last stop.

5 Months later here we are back in Auckland. Epic journey. Back to paradise. <3 NZ

That pretty much sums up my 2012 too: Uneventful apart from buying my first home! :alienbang:

Sadly lacking in D&B this year though, but I blame that on the lack of gigs here in ChurChur since the shakes. Hasn't stopped me cranking some good beats in my new house though!

Seriously regretted missing the Andy C gig here this year!

Wow - Congrats on the house purchase, Nato. It's a massive undertaking (the stress doesn't stop until after you've moved all your stuff in - learn to love signing things multiple times).

This year has been more about dealing with car issues that have left me near broke a few times. The fact I've been able to deal with them and keep my head above water is only a good thing.

Gig wise I've seen some great shows and played a few good ones myself. All in all a solid, if uneventful 2012.

Tell me about it. You know when you say the same word over and over and over it starts sounding foreign and alien and loses all connection to the meaning in your head....I feel the same way about my initials after signing the sale & purchase agreement. 4 copies, initials each side, about 15 double sided pages each.

Mate, you should try buying a house on TC3 Land in Christchurch. It's not only like jumping through a thousand hoops, it's like someone lit them all on fire and doused you in petrol first. :armata_pdt_05:

Upside is that at some point in the next year or so EQC is coming through to paint the whole of the inside and outside of the house and re-pile the foundations. Free home renovations FTW!

2012 almost over...damn son...we're getting old, boys! :x

Been quite a vintage one for me I think, loving being in a new city and it's inspired me to keep moving and live/work in a few more overseas markets over the next 3-5 years..so maybe a bit of a turning point.

Job/Career has gone off its socks this year, lots of hard work and definitely some right place/right time action coming my way too. Stepped up when I relocated here and have since been promoted further so it's all humming along real nice.

Still on the mad break from DJ'ing...don't think I've had a mix since like...January? Can't say I've really missed it all that much, although just recently some cravings have come through...I'll pick it up again in time. Once a DJ always a DJ no doubt

Music/gigs - been a bit slack and missed a TONNE of good DJ's that have rolled through except for Ben UFO really - but managed to catch some bigger gigs like Prince, Ice Cube/Ludacris, Icehouse & Hall & Oates, and Future Music Festival over here which had like Aphex Twin, New Order and then a tonne of shite acts like Skrillex - funny though.

That's me - Enjoy your Xmas/NY's everyone and here's to a stellar 2013.

Happy New Year to all...

Seems like the site is getting pretty quiet these days, but still it's been a good year for DBNZ. We released the new site design in February, with many thanks to Laura a.k.a Critter. Not much activity recently on the boards or at the clubs... tbh not listening to massive amounts of DNB myself lately, but still on the lookout for certain DJ's for sure.

Big ups to those who still hang around in the wake of 2012. :partyman:
